God’s Light and Holding On

Gen. 1:1-4    In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

James 1:13-17    Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

James 1:13-17

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed (Perplexed – A state wherein no way out is seen), but not in despair (Despair – A Hopeless State);

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

I.  As Christians We Can Endure Because:

1.  The Victory Has Already Been Promised.

Ps 110:1-7   The Lord (God the father) said unto my Lord (God the Son), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

2.  We have Victory: By the Holy Spirit / Over the flesh / Over the World / Through Jesus Christ / By His Resurrection / By His Return Even Victory Over satan!

II.  God Is More Powerful Than The World Against Us

John 16:33   33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1.  We can overcome the world!   **Most of you already have but didn’t know it!

Polar Bear Story… Young polar bear didn’t know he was a rough tough bear because he was so cold when the others seemed to not care. He didn’t realize who he was nor did he realize what he was going to be. Christians sometimes can fall in this category, we must remember who we are and what it is that God wants us to be.

**1 John 5:4, 5  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God.

**1 Corinthians 15:57  57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

III.  We Have Eternal Blessings Awaiting Us

A. Inheritance

Hebrews 9:15   And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

B. Rewards

John 4:36  And he that reapeth receiveth wages (rewards), and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

We Have Eternal:  Inheritance / Rewards / Glory / Comfort /  Life / Redemption / Salvation / Kingdom / Name / Joy / Purpose / Dwelling  Place
